Netgear Wifi Extender Setup

The Netgear Wifi Extender Setup helps you to get optimal internet speed in every corner of your home. As it enhances your WiFi signals several folds. This blog will walk you through all steps needed to perform the Netgear Wifi Extender Setup.

Steps for Netgear Wifi Extender Setup

Stick to the following steps as they are the exact step-by-step process for Netgear Wifi Extender Setup:

· So the very first step for you is to plug in your extender to the power source. Then wait till the Power LED lights up.

And in case the power LED doesn’t light up, press the Power ON/OFF button on your extender.

· Then connect your device with the Extender’s WiFi Network name.

Note that the default WiFi network name (SSID) for the extender is NETGEAR_EXT. And usually, the extender does not have any password. But if it does, the extender’s default password is password.

Your device could warn you that the internet is not available, but this is expected. You could ignore it.

· Now open any web browser on your device and search for www.mywifiext.net in the search bar.

· This leads you to a New Extender Setup Page.

· Now click on the New Extender Setup.

And it will ask you to accept terms and conditions, so click Yes or I Agree.

· Now you have to enter your extender’s admin credentials.

And you will access your extender’s settings on your browser, using these credentials.

Thus, we recommend you; let the default username be admin. And keep the password different from your WiFi’s network password.

· Now open the drop-down menu, and select any two security questions of your choice, and answer accordingly.

These security questions will help you recover your admin credentials, in case you forget them.

· Now tap on the Next button.

· In this step, you could be asked, if you would like to use NETGEAR genie to help, click on the Next or I Agree button. Through this, your extender will search for your local WIFI networks.

· Now, choose the radio buttons for your network’s 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi network names (SSID). And in case you don’t see your network name, click on the See More button.

· Now, click Next.

· Put in your existing network’s password here, and tap the Next button.

· Now select the SSIDs and password for your extender.

The default extender’s username for your 2.4 GHz band will end with _2GEXT. And for your 5 GHz band, the default username will end with _5GEXT. The default password for each band will be the same as your existing network.

The mesh extender users have the option to use the same WiFi name and password as their existing network. They just have to select the Enable One WiFi Name from their check box.

· Now click the Next option, and wait for a few minutes as the extender applies your settings.

The extender will now display your WiFi Network name (SSID) and password. You must take note of these.

Now go to the WiFi settings of the device that you want to connect to the extender’s network. And connect it to the extender’s new network.

· At last, go back to the web page on your browser and select the checkbox at the bottom of the page. Then click Continue.

Your Netgear Wifi Extender has now been set up.
